With the current restricted movement guidance, a lot of us are spending too much time at home so I wanted to share with you some homemade skincare recipes that you can make with simple ingredients you can find in your cupboard. Following the advice to #workfromhome, I think it's important to eat healthy, stay active indoors, remain connected with friends and family and in general take care of ourselves.
I find that flats in London (specifically my flat!) can have dry air and when the air lacks humidity it can really dry up the skin. To keep your skin healthy and moisturised I've put together a simple recipe you can use to make a hydrating face mask with just 2-3 ingredients.
You will need:
1. Avocado: This is full of healthy fats that is good for your gut and your skin. It is packed with Vitamin E (among other vitamins) which is an antioxidant and can help reduce redness and inflammation. When applied on the skin it penetrates it to nourish and hydrate it.
2. Honey: Lovely to eat and use topically on your skin :) It has been used to reduce inflammation and also increase healing. When you apply it on your skin it hydrates and tightens your skin pores.
3. Oats: Yes thats right - oats! This is an amazing ingredient. You can either use in powder or as it is (if you want a smooth consistency it might be best to grind them). It soaks up excess oil on your skin and it is known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to help soothe dry skin.
How to make:
- Half avocado
- 2 tsp honey
- 2 tsp oats
Mash the avocado and combine with the other ingredients in a bowl. For a super smooth consistency, put all the ingredients in a blender and mash. Apply to clean and dry face. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Wash your face and apply your usual skincare.
